Role Overview & Position Summary:
At Schwab, the Global Data Technology (GDT) organization leads the strategy, implementation and management of the enterprise data technology. They enable the management of data as assets and the delivery of data along the value-chain across Schwab. They help Marketing, Finance, Risk and various P&Ls make fact-based decisions by integrating and analyzing data as well as operationally leveraging data for competitive advantage. The team delivers innovative client experience capability and rich business insight through robust enterprise data-driven capabilities.
We are seeking to recruit a Senior Managing Director (SMD), Global Data Technology – STS Data to enable data-informed optimization of the Schwab technology operation. This is a newly created role; it will report to the Senior Vice President (SVP) Global Data Technology within the Schwab Technology Services (STS) organization and be based in Westlake, TX or Austin, TX.
Schwab’s GDT function aspires to serve as a trusted, service-oriented, and expert partner that provides information products and insights that deliver business value. It is our intent to drive activation of information solutions and intelligence to achieve targeted business outcomes, address data risk, and safeguard/drive competitive position. The leader of Schwab STS Data will be responsible for strategy and data solutions that position our CIO, CTO, and other senior STS leaders to make informed decisions on operations, workforce, expenditure, risk, and process. This leader will also be responsible for forging relationships with peer functions within STS to foster data team engagement, counsel, and support. This leader will be accountable for progress in data support of other STS functions and the overarching STS organization, while also contributing as a member of the larger GDT senior leadership team for collaborative decisions around data technology direction for the larger Schwab organization. By leading and collaborating to deliver data solutions focused on running, optimizing, and transforming STS, the SMD leader will drive and enable value in such areas as:
- Technology Strategies: Enabling data capabilities in support of the strategies and initiatives within Schwab Technology Services, one of the largest areas of Schwab resource consumption
- Financial Management: Providing for short term financial management and decisions to operate STS in a healthy manner, as well as insights for longer term financial planning and strategy.
- Risk Mitigation: Increasing visibility to correlated areas of operational exposure and conflict, while providing overarching data capabilities to systematically assess and address STS risk.
- Enterprise Capabilities: Serving a breadth of technology data and metrics in a browse-able, navigable, and understandable format to support known and future use cases within Schwab Technology Services.

This Schwab TIS (Technology Infrastructure Services) position will support on-site and remote technology teams, including IT Operations. Position responsibility will include assisting with technology hardware production support, planning and implementing technology space requirements; interfacing with third-party vendors (break/fix and deployment); act as the TIS point-of-contact for Facilities and Security in Critical Technology Areas; defining and monitoring hardware environmental requirements; define, maintain and manage connectivity installations within Critical Technology Areas; responsible for technology hardware asset inventory in Critical Technology Areas; vendor coordination for technology hardware recycling and disposal. The Senior Developer will play a key role in organizing and driving work within the Insight team and across the larger Compliance and Legal Service Technology portfolio. Core responsibilities include the delivery of application functionality while closely working with the development team to ensure implementations meet all technology standards. This role will also be responsible for mentoring the development team, designing and overseeing coding standards and code reviews while interfacing closely with key stakeholders.

The Technology Risk and Cybersecurity Compliance (TRACC) team is responsible for providing ongoing validation and continuous operating effectiveness of centralized technology processes, including establishing and leveraging data assurance processes for continuous monitoring, process improvement, and risk mitigation for Schwab. This position will collaborate with various teams throughout Schwab Technology Services to identify opportunities for control automation, and develop/implement a program for controls testing to improve compliance objectives.
The Controls Engineering and Process Improvement is responsible for assessing operational Access Management risks and related controls prior to formal lines of defense testing. They will partner with the team’s analytics lead on using digitized control evaluation techniques, and consult with IAM control owners and performers on control design and enhancement.
Processes and responsibilities will include:
- Design and execute evaluations of application, database, and server access-based controls portfolio.
- Assess control compliance for recently integrated applications (provisioning, terminations, transfers, access certifications, etc.).
- Use data analytics to scale control assessments and minimize impact on control owners and performers.
- Partner with control performers to enhance control design.
- Identify themes, trends, and emerging risks for escalation and communication to management.
- Consult with engineering teams regarding access risks related to emerging technologies and processes (e.g. RPA, Cloud, DevOps).
- Identify, Assess, and Recommend Tools and Techniques to automate information systems controls in consultation with process and control owners.
- Implement automation controls testing, and develop compliance monitoring dashboard for internal controls to support audit (external auditor, internal audit, SOX team, etc.) and regulatory (FRB, OCC, FINR, etc.) requirements.

Technology Risk & Cybersecurity Compliance (TRACC) team is responsible for providing ongoing testing of Schwab Cybersecurity controls, decentralized application access management controls, validating issue closure for selected findings and remediation plans, and identifying and developing automated and self-testing efficiencies.
Reporting to a TRACC Senior Manager, the successful Senior Staff will be responsible for supporting a first line of defense risk-based testing and assessment program intended to evaluate risks and internal controls across the Schwab Technology Services (STS) environment. The Senior Staff will operate within a team of IT security risk assessment practitioners with the objective of testing internal controls to identify control gaps, reduce risk, advance audit readiness objectives, and promote adherence to Schwab and STS policies and standards, regulatory requirements, as well as industry standard common control frameworks. Information Technology Operations (ITO) is seeking a Senior Manager with a demonstrable record of success building and leading teams in a support capacity. The role is hiring in the Westlake, TX area for the early morning shift. The ITO teams handle risk to the firm by monitoring the real-time health of software applications running on over 40,000 servers across a complicated network environment in multiple physical locations. This support covers a 24/7 x 365 calendar, requiring round-the-clock accessibility, therefore schedule flexibility is a necessity. The role that you will be applying for is in the Westlake, TX campus with the shift hours of 9:00 PM EST – 7:30 AM EST, Mon – Thu with shift differential.
The primary function of the ITO role is to serve as stewards of the firm’s technology offering, assuring that systems are available and “balanced” around the clock. As such, the ITO Sr. Manager and their team will be measured by accessibility metrics such as “Mean Time to Detect” and “Mean Time to Restore.” Much of the ITO role is spent reviewing programmatic alerts and making a determination as to whether or not there is an imminent system issue as a result. If a system issue is anticipated, the ITO team coordinates the parties that can make an immediate repair, regardless of the time of day.
The ITO Sr. Manager will oversee employees both locally and remotely, teaming with other ITO Sr. Managers to assure that employees have seamless support. It is expected that the ITO Sr. Manager be accessible by phone if an employee needs guidance and the Sr. Manager is not physically accessible.
