The Internal Audit Department (IAD) of The Charles Schwab Corporation provides independent and objective assessments to figure out whether all significant risks are identified and appropriately reported by management and risk functions to the Board and Executive Management, to evaluate whether risks are adequately controlled, and to challenge Executive Management to improve the efficiency of governance processes, risk management, and internal controls.   The Internal Audit Bank enterprise team is seeking a Senior Specialist. The Bank Internal Audit team is passionate about the execution of Bank and Trust audits that target governance processes, risk management programs, internal controls, and regulatory compliance. The team also shares responsibility for regulatory agency interactions, Board and Executive Management reporting, and general relationship management. Internal Audit activities are directed towards the Charles Schwab Banking and Trust Services (BTS) organization, which represents three federally-chartered banks and two personal trust companies. These entities represent wholly-owned subsidiaries of the Charles Schwab Corporation (CSC) that are focused on offering traditional retail and advisor-sponsored banking and personal trust services to complement Schwab’s brokerage capabilities. Business trust services are provided for entities seeking trust and custody services for employee benefit plans.   Reporting to a Managing Director in the Bank enterprise team, the Senior Specialist will have responsibility for assisting in the independent and objective assurance activities crafted to improve the organization’s operations and compliance with key regulations by evaluating and improving the efficiency of risk management, control, and governance processes.

The key to the team’s success lies in its ability to create highly relevant and scalable programs that turn practice management insights into actionable plans that advisors can implement in their firms.  These programs are delivered by a nationwide team of experienced consultants who work closely with prospects, advisors and their Schwab relationship managers to understand the firm’s challenges and areas of opportunity, and then map a path forward.    Programs developed and managed by BCE include the annual Charles Schwab RIA Benchmarking Study, immersive multi-week ‘Insight to Action’ consulting programs, the Schwab Executive Leadership Program, Schwab Advisor University, Business Start-up Consulting, Talent Resource Center, RIA Talent Advantage, RIA Intern Program, and the Cybersecurity Resource Center.  The BCE team also produces white papers on a range of practice management issues in addition to creating resources to help advisors navigate compliance requirements.

The Schwab Center for Financial Research is responsible for researching, packaging, and delivering investing, financial planning, and wealth management research and insights at the right time, in the right format and supporting partners to develop training, tools, product, and communications to deliver research and insights to clients.   The Director – Research – Financial Planning & Wealth Management for the Schwab Center of Financial Research (SCFR) will propose and execute a thought leadership agenda around the follow planning and wealth management topics:   - Basic financial planning, behavioral finance, and reasons for planning - Banking, budgeting, and cash-flow management - Investment planning - Retirement planning (both saving for and in retirement) - Risk management and insurance (including annuities) - Estate planning (partnering with Schwab's estate planning team) - Tax planning (including tax-efficient investing partnering with SCFR Director – Tax Planning)   The Director will support and help grow Schwab's financial planning and wealth management business by identifying key financial planning and wealth management topics and strategies of interest to Schwab advice-providing reps and clients. The director will report to the Vice President – Financial Planning, Retirement Income, and Wealth Management for SCFR to do the following:   - Research agenda. Survey and identify key issues in financial planning and wealth management of interest to Schwab reps and clients. - Research execution. Identify opportunities to package, communicate, or extend research to provide thought leadership, advice, and strategies to help clients. - Publish thought leadership. Draft and deliver insights on selected planning and wealth management topics and strategies, to help turn insights into action. - Educating reps and the public. Package and create a curriculum of financial planning and wealth management topics focused on insight and strategies to use with clients. - Support Schwab tools and products. Serve as a subject matter expert to help deliver planning using Schwab Planning Tools (MoneyGuidePro) and Schwab wealth management solutions and products.   Sample research and advice questions could include:   - Are there quantifiable benefits from having a financial plan and if so what are they? - What can be learn from research in behavioral finance to engage clients in planning? - How should planners explain Monte Carlo simulation when presenting a financial plan? - How can a client make sure that their savings last in retirement? - Should individuals consider permanent life (cash value) policy instead of term life policy? - What strategies can clients use and can you quantify the benefits of tax-smart investing? - What estate planning steps should high net worth clients consider and why?   Go to schwab.com/Insights for samples of retail commentary.   In addition, the director will write and deliver advanced research, insights, memos, training, and content to be used by Schwab Financial Consultants (FCs), Planning Specialists (IPCs), Private Client Advisors (PCAs) and Wealth Strategists (WSG.)
