Your Opportunity

Schwab Asset Management Solutions (SAMS) technology team is looking for a senior software development engineer to join the Test Architecture and Governance team.  This is an opportunity for a talented technology generalist to join the SAMS Technology Architecture practice and help our client’s own their tomorrow.


This is a senior level individual contributor position aimed at delivering applications, services, and utility frameworks within SAMS.  This position is in Westlake, TX.

What you are good at

  • Above all else you’re an engineer and a full stack developer (Data-Services-UI). You solve problems through applied software development. You’re curious and hungry to learn new things and look to make a long-lasting impact on projects.
  • You designed, developed, and tested complex systems in the past. You have experience developing web applications, Web Services, and databases.
  • You worked in an Agile environment in the past. Iterative test-driven development and working as part of a distributed engineering team doesn’t scare you.
  • You’re lifelong learner. You’re able to grasp difficult concepts and complex designs and stays on top of new and emerging technologies.
  • Work cross-organizationally both within Schwab and with external vendors, both on and offshore to implement test practices, standards, and processes, define environment requirements, and troubleshoot test framework and technology issues.
  • Set and communicate automation strategies and processes for web services, APIs, middleware, UI, data, etc., evaluate and implement software test automation tools and tooling standards.
  • Build automation frameworks to increase reuse and reduce effort. Increase automation cycle execution run times and decrease manual analysis of results.
  • Drive continuous integration and deployment strategies leveraging tools like Bamboo with a CI/CD philosophy.
  • Participate in technical governance and help negotiate overall engineering quality standards with development and business teams.
  • Partner with engineering teams on defining testing strategy, identifying testing gaps, and building action plans to mitigate delivery risks.
  • Support training of Engineering Resources in the areas of Agile Testing Practices, Test Driven Development, Test Automation, Robotic Process Automation, and managing Testing Metrics for publication to Senior Management.
  • You’re a strong communicator, with ability to effectively communicate technical concepts in both written and verbal form.
  • You have worked effectively via remote access and are comfortable in continuous channel communications with messaging systems like MS Teams or Slack.
  • You’re a self-starter and have strong experience analyzing, researching, and debugging code and environment challenges.

What you have

  • 6+ years of strong, demonstrable experience working as software developer or SDET in combination of Python, C#/Java, and SQL.
  • Experience developing RESTful web services using ASP.NET Web API, Flask, or similar framework. Ability to parse nested JSON/ XML.
  • Practical knowledge and use of Design Patterns (Strategy, Factory, Singleton etc.)
  • Experience using ‘git’ as source control system (cherry-pick, merge conflict resolution should be second nature to you)
  • Working experience with PowerShell, Windows Server, IIS, Oracle DB, and SQL Server
  • Solid understanding of Cloud architectures and best practices (incl. security)
  • Comfort with the Atlassian toolset (Jira, Confluence, Bamboo)
  • Experience mentoring junior level engineers a strong plus



Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with PyTest, Flask, Django, Entity Framework, Angular, React, xUnit, and JUnit
  • Experience with JavaScript
  • Practical knowledge and some experience with Selenium, Playwright, Protractor, and Postman
  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform and Amazon Web Services
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or similar area of study
  • Experience designing and developing automation and testing frameworks
