Your Opportunity

The Digital Utilities Technology team searching for an Engineering Manager to lead multiple scrum teams responsible to build and maintain the Status Utility Platform.  The Status Utility platform is a critical part of Schwab’s Smart Processing initiative and is responsible for aggregating and delivering timely, relevant, and contextual status updates to investors, clients, reps, and advisors.  You will be a key contributor of extending the excellence of Schwab’s core digital platforms and experiences, providing Schwab’s clients and advisors with key digital capabilities.  Schwab pushes the boundaries of digital service and digital excellence and these teams are at the forefront of creating and delivering these capabilities.

 

You will be part of a larger group called Cross Enterprise Services (CES) which is focused on delivering consistent, enterprise quality and highly performant shared services for all of Schwab’s systems as building blocks for outstanding end-user experiences.  CES offers a wide range of technology opportunities for the best and brightest people to grow and demonstrate their skills.

What you are good at

In this position you will have a broad range of responsibilities with a central focus on working with developers to support and develop an innovative, highly scalable platform.  You will:

 

  • Manage the analysis, design, development, and release of key application features
  • Facilitate technical discussions and drive solutions forward to achieve business needs and ensure alignment to strategic technology vision
  • Provide hands-on technical mentoring and leadership; challenge engineers by setting high standards, fostering an environment for their development, and celebrate wins and improvements.
  • Manage and coordinate team interaction with business, technology and production support partners
  • Develop resource roadmaps, budgets and schedules
  • Enable and guide scrum/agile processes, as well as focusing on continual improvement
  • Identify gaps/risks early and establish mitigation plans (both technical and people)
  • Continually strive for improvements in process, talent acquisition/retention, application time-to-market and quality
  • Lead all recruiting activities across the team (create different avenues when necessary)

 

What you have

You must possess a solid technology background in the required technology areas to provide oversight and guidance to teams and facilitate technological decisions. To be successful in this position you will have a strong relationship with business, technology, infrastructure and production support teams.

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Experience as a technical lead
  • Direct people management experience preferred, but not required
  • Extensive experience running medium to large/complex projects with multiple dependencies using Agile (Scrum/Kanban) processes in planning, implementation and support of business application components, including change & release management
  • Bachelor's degree in technology, business, or related discipline 

 

Leadership and Management:

 

  • Self-starter with the ability to prioritize, manage priorities, identify risks, and to consistently deliver quality solutions
  • Adaptability to thrive in a dynamic fast paced environment with many moving parts and a large variety of responsibilities including geographical diversity of technical functions
  • Demonstrated ability to interact and communicate successfully with business partners, technology team, production support and infrastructure teams
  • Strong influencing, negotiation, and problem-solving skills with an ability to identify stakeholders, assess their needs and manage their expectations through effective communication
  • Proven track record successfully building, leading and growing technology teams including working in the agile process, objective setting, career path guidance, and staff performance

Technical Qualifications:

  • Experience with .NET/C#, Java, or Java Script preferred; Experience with RESTful Services, CI/CD automation also preferred
  • Familiarity with enterprise IT systems and cloud-based solutions (e.g. networking, capacity planning, operations, etc.) preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, propose and implement timely, cost effective, quality solutions for all issues or problems within area of responsibility
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate and lead technical discussions and drive solutions forward to achieve business needs
  • Demonstrated past experience with designing or working with highly available and reliable systems including work on technical design and architecture and also KPIs for tracking and improving software reliability
  • Strong experience facilitating issue intervention and driving improvements
  • Strong skills in risks identification, tracking and planned mitigation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong innovation, creativity, and problem-solving skills
