Your Opportunity

Core Technology Solution (CTS) Client Data Management Team (CDMT) is responsible for Charles Schwab’s core customer and account data including system of record, business event publishing & consumption, along with hundreds of modern RESTful and legacy APIs which feed our many channels and client experiences! In fact, our front line clients access the technology we build when they access their Schwab account – this role is also involved in the overall modernization of our platforms – it’s an exciting time to join this team and be involved in building something that our clients love to use every day!

We are looking for a Solutions Architect (Principal) to lead specific scalability initiatives to modernize customer and account technology landscape with use of service and event oriented architecture. This opportunity will use your passion and experience around ‘performant’ microservices and context-based business event processing. You will make use of Pivotal Cloud Foundry, Yugabyte, Kafka, and RabbitMq to build scalable solutions for a new digital enterprise. Your solutions will need to scale horizontally and demonstrate pragmatic thinking around non-functional requirements.

You will work with a group of really smart people that love what they do and want to make a difference. At Schwab, we strive to see the world through our client’s eyes; this mentality helps craft the way we collaborate and work together to achieve our strategic outcomes.

What you are good at

  • You will collaborate with deep thinking colleagues to establish standards, patterns, and architectures, which drive secure, scalable enterprise systems.
  • You will actively engage with engineers and product owners to determine the best path forward to modernize legacy systems.
  • You will challenge the status quo; you will build relationships with team members to solicit feedback and input on your solutions. You will demonstrate your hard-earned wisdom to show ‘progress over perfection’ as we deconstruct the monolith.
  • You will be comfortable looking at code to understand existing flows, rules, and design. You will have freedom to explore, prototype, or even implement solutions that help drives strategic decision making.
  • You will lead design initiatives (drive discussions, produce artifacts) and will publish or present your ideas to technology leaders and business executives

What you have

  • Experience in Financial Services Industry preferred
  • Experience applying well-known patterns to application and service architecture; active-active database deployments, circuit breaker, strangler, etc.
  • Experience with messaging systems including message brokers (RabbitMq, IBM MQ, Kafka), channels, and common publishing or consumption patterns.
  • Experience with Pivotal Cloud Foundry and Spring Framework preferred; ideal candidates can also understand Mainframe legacy events / copybooks / stored procedures in order to accelerate modernization and migration initiatives
  • Strong knowledge of non-functional requirements related to operationalizing enterprise solutions
  • Solid understanding of/experience in cloud native design including event-driven application development, state management, configuration and deployment strategies, security and performance tuning, and debugging methodologies
  • Effective time management; must be able to prioritize and multi-task effectively
  • High enthusiasm to learn and contribute actively in a team environment; you are a great teammate, self-motivated, humble, and able to work collaboratively across organizations and geographic locations
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field highly preferred
