Your Opportunity

As the Principal of Insider Threat, you are expected to serve as ‘first line of defense’ strategic technical resource. You will provide awareness of and help grow our Insider Threat program. You will partner directly with the Insider Threat and Incident Response Managing Director. Principals are also expected to promote a team spirit and an enthusiastic work demeanor, promote positive thinking, maintain ongoing open dialog, and foster the ideas and talents of others. This role plays a crucial part in safeguarding our clients’ data, their future, and our brand by identifying and monitoring threats within systems and applications in Schwab’s IT environment.

What you are good at

This role is responsible for:

  • Maturing and providing technical leadership involving strategic, tactical, technical, and defensive incident response processes and technologies
  • Maintaining laser focus on maturing and building comprehensive data models, use cases that map to program charter, goals and objectives.
  • Helping develop and participating in a collaborative approach to insider threat hunting, threat monitoring and analysis, and appropriate remediation activities in direct partnership with Threat Management and Monitoring teams and our business partners.
  • Providing valuable intelligence via feedback loops into the Firm’s Cyber Threat Intelligence functions
  • Identify improvements to business processes and methodologies
  • Provide technical expertise and leadership to the security specialists on your team
  • Work with peer departments and technical platform teams to address concerns, and provide consultation to Governance functions on risks and critical issues
  • Ensure that company-wide intelligence is consistently integrated into the threat models developed for Insider Threat.
  • Review incident reports, determine their severity, and socialize accordingly to help facilitate long-term remediation into our program.
  • Build positive, productive relationships with all leadership

What you have

Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or related field required


Minimum of 8 years of experience in Information Security with a preference for experience in; data modeling and analytics, incident response, project management, business or security informatics, threat intelligence, audit & assurance, enterprise risk management, corporate compliance, security architecture/design strategy, policy or controls development, compliance readiness assessments (i.e. PCI, SOX, GLBA, FFIEC, etc.), system analysis and implementation, or related function. Previous experience as a technical leader within an enterprise security incident response program is a plus.


Desired Certifications:

CISSP, CISM, GCIA, GCFA, GREM or security equivalent.


Other Qualifications:

  • Experience with application/system/infrastructure security monitoring and applicable toolsets
  • Knowledge of the current threat landscape, especially Insider Threat
  • Knowledge of enterprise systems, network and security infrastructure
  • Exceptional administrative, organizational and problem solving skills
  • Ability to document and explain technical details to technical staff and executives
  • Experience in demonstrating intelligence feeds and products to prioritize blue team response functions
