    The Senior Managing Director, Learning & Talent Development leads the team responsible for implementing firm-wide business learning initiatives to employees.  The Senior Managing Director’s team of talent professionals will consult with business leaders to deliver learning curricula and experiences supporting Schwab’s purpose and strengthening our client-focused culture.  The team delivers programs supporting our talent strategy of ensuring an engaged, diverse workforce with the right capabilities, experience and aptitude for service.  This position is responsible for employee and leader experience programs; leading all business enterprise training solutions in Schwab Technology, Operations, Advisor Services, Retirement Plan Services, Compliance and Client Solutions along with common content for all Schwab employees across the enterprise.

    What you’re good at

    • Delivering consistent experiences addressing the needs of new hires to optimize productivity, and for current employees to build skill, knowledge and expertise.
    • Architect employee development programs in the organization in order to drive a strengths based, engagement enhanced development culture
    • Providing training solutions to meet our firm element training requirements; ensuring accurate and up to date information is available for client facing employees.
    • Oversee programs and initiatives enhancing the employee experience, deliver on our employee value proposition and support leaders in executing business imperatives.
    • Partnering on organization development and effectiveness efforts with accountability for building leadership capability translating to bench strength and effective succession management; creating and executing on transformational enterprise-wide change; creating a strengths based approach to organizational growth; maintaining a track record of building and leading high performing teams.
    • Collaborate with senior leaders to ensure learning programs are aligned to our long term strategic objectives, specific business objectives and meeting the needs of the business, including annual planning, prioritization, resource allocation and regular updates with business partners.
    • Ensure delivery of a high quality employee experience for all new hires and create role specific onboarding programs.
    • Managing a centralized budget balancing the needs of the business among the competing priorities for resources. Identifying and selecting outside vendor solutions and working closely with the design team to collaborate on internal solutions. Ensuring internal and external design and delivery capabilities are deployed against business needs.

    What you have

    • Bachelor’s degree (Masters preferred) and a minimum of ten years of leadership experience in a relevant learning/training role from a regulated services oriented environment or other relevant complex industry.
    • Strong business acumen and understanding of how talent programs integrate into the business cycle and support business objectives to execute practical, effective and simple firm-wide solutions.
    • Demonstrated growth orientation and able to inspire the organization with their vision, authenticity and optimism while delivering exceptional results.
    • Results oriented leader who takes the initiative and effectively distills strategy, analytics and varied sets of input to drive to decisions and follow through to execution.
    • Able to synthesize complex ideas/information/processes and create actionable, organizational objectives. Must balance the needs of the firm and the individual businesses to deliver programs meeting current and future needs.  
    • Courageous leader who develops followership and builds high performing, diverse, cross-functional work teams of both direct and non-direct team members rallied around the strategy. Willing to confront mediocrity personally and with their team.
    • Capacity to build and manage metrics across the team to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
    • Relationship building skills with the proven ability to work with leaders at all levels of the organization.  
    • Thrives on initiating, building and cultivating strong authentic relationships inside and outside the group, highly collaborative and navigates and activates alignment across organizational silos. Especially important to do so with senior executives, as this role is regularly involved with EVP level presentations and decision making meetings.
    • Inspirational leader who will stand up for brave ideas and take smart risks, executing with the right combination of urgency and analysis, and prioritizing - ruthlessly making tough choices when necessary.
    • Experienced in effectively assessing, selecting and developing talent for the firm adept at providing balanced, direct and actionable feedback to employees. Experience managing multiple priorities and overseeing distinct teams with varied strengths.
    • Strong emotional intelligence/maturity and senior level executive presence.
    • Ability to drive growth by embracing curiosity and innovating to create new and better ways to support client and the business and capitalize on opportunities to operate more effectively and increase performance across all levels of the organization.  
    • Identifies learning and development needs arising from a range of organizational diagnostics, including training needs analysis, employee surveys, employee focus groups and change management initiatives, as they arise.
    • Works with cross-functional partners to identify current and future core capabilities necessary to achieve the organization’s strategic framework.
